Good Things Take Time
“Good things take time” — might sound like just another phrase, but there’s real truth behind it. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Friendships or relationships don’t blossom overnight. Projects aren’t completed last minute. If they were quick, it most likely wouldn’t have the same impact.
How much time is considered a “good time”, especially in the age of digitalization? I ponder on this question a lot. We’re used to quick, constant gratifications. One click away to shop, one swipe away to match, one scroll away to search, and one call away to find; coupled with our shrinking attention span of 8 seconds. What’s the right balance here?
Imagine you’re trying to build a desk. You could grab your pre-ordered set, some nails, and a hammer to start going at it. But, if you skipped the groundwork of measuring the space where the desk would be set up, the position of the desk, for better sunlight or accessibility, chances are that your desk may not turn out in the way you want it to.
The art of building something beautiful takes time. When I was younger, I did not understand what this really meant. I was quick to build opinions, make conclusions, deliver judgements, and expose myself to the risk of misjudging people or situations. Times have changed, since then.
I’ve learned to be a lot more patient over the years, through deliberate efforts. A lot of unlearning to learn. There’s meaningful connections to be made, experiences to live by, and memories to create. Importantly, pay no heed to situations out of…
